Chile’s Courageous Comeback

In the first quarterfinal match, Chile exhibited remarkable courage and exceptional volleyball skills. Despite facing a deficit early on, the team rallied to secure a 3-2 victory over Colombia, with set scores of 25-23, 15-25, 17-25, 27-25, and 18-16. This win earned Chile a coveted ticket to the semifinals where they will face either Mexico or Brazil.

Vicente Parraguirre emerged as the star player for Chile, scoring a phenomenal 28 points and significantly contributing to his team’s advancement. Other notable performances included Dusan Bonacic, with 18 points, and Matias Jadue, who contributed 13 points. On the Colombian side, Andrés Piza led with 18 points, followed by Liberman Agamez with 17 and Jharold Caicedo with 15.

While Chile excelled in serves (5-2), Colombia showed dominance in blocking (13-9). Both teams ended with 60 points per attack, but Chile committed significantly more errors — 39 compared to Colombia’s 28.

Canada’s Stunning Upset

In the second quarterfinal, Canada pulled off a major upset by defeating the previously undefeated USA team in a straight-set victory (3-0). The USA had maintained a flawless record in the competition until they encountered a resolute Canadian squad.

Kyle McCauley led the USA team and was the match’s top scorer with 12 points. Parker Van Buren added another 11 points for the USA. Despite these strong individual performances, they were not enough to stave off Canada’s vigorous play.

The Canadian victory featured a standout performance from the national team’s setter, Byron Keturakis, who proved to be the most effective player for Canada with 9 points, including 2 blocks and 5 service aces. Team captain and middle blocker, Finnian Lionel McCarthy, matched this effort, scoring 9 points through 4 block points and 5 from attacks.

The Semifinals Await

With these quarterfinal results, the stage is now set for a thrilling round of semifinals. Canada is slated to face the host nation, Mexico, in what promises to be an electrifying match. In the other semifinal showdown, Brazil will challenge the resilient Chilean team.
